Matthew Flinders, who was born in 1774, was a British navigator who is credited with exploring and charting much of the Australian coastline. In 1798, he sailed on the Norfolk on an expedition with George Bass to confirm that Van Dieman's Land was separated from mainland Australia.

Matthew Flinders was a great seafaring explorer, charting much of Australia’s coastline despite a series of trials and wild adventures. An outstanding sailor, surveyor, navigator and scientist, he was a considerate and self-sacrificing leader who looked after all under his command.

When the remains of the famous explorer were discovered back in 2019, the team knew they had to be brought back to his home town of Donington, UK.

On July 13th, 2024 over 400 guests celebrated the return of his remains in the small town of Donington, UK.
